Kapa Haka

KAPA HAKA

Every year we have a kapa haka festival in Gisborne. Wainui Beach School have been practicing for it since the start of the year.

At the kapa Haka festival we sing many different Maori songs and do actions. Basically all the schools in gisborne do kapa haka .. I learnt that in the haka you have to slow down when you're singing. The boys do actions and the girls do the poi and some do actions.

Before school was so excited and nervous. When the bell rang I ran to the hall to get my moko on. I was shocked when I saw the humungus line. Luckily my friend was at the front of the line. He let me in front of him. Once stamped on my face the moko was so itchy. I wanted to scratch it but I didn't want to smudge my moko.

We arrived at the showgrounds after a long bus trip of singing and excitement. I slept some of the way.

The bfg

 The bfg

This term my class has been reading the bfg. Bfg stands for the [big friendly giant]. There is a movie and a book about the bfg. If you have all of the roldal books one of them is probably the bfg. The bfg book is about a bfg and a little girl called sophie. The bfg stole sophie from her bed because she saw him. The bfg was trying to put dreams in the children's heads. This is my dream.

Pic'n mix

 Pic'n mix

Everyday in Room One this term we have been playing PIc n Mix. Pic" n mix is a time table game.

Things you need to play:

a pack of cards, a dealer and 2 or more people.

How to play:

The dealer flips one card around and the people shout out the answer. [Example, if you chose five time tables and the card the dealer flipped was a nine the answer would be 45]

Skipping

Did you know Room One does skipping every day? This term Room One skips every day in the morning and we have a skipping buddy. My skipping buddy is Moss. Room one does two 15 seconds, two 30 seconds and two 45 seconds rotations.

Moss and I  like the yellow handles the best. The green handles are too short for Moss and I but the yellow handles are perfect because the rope is the right length.

However, sometimes there aren't enough green handles and we get stuck with one of those short ones.

Why do we skip?

We skip because we are training for cross-country. I come first in cross-country every year. Moss and I have similar scores. Moss is also a good runner.
