Kapa Haka

KAPA HAKA

Every year we have a kapa haka festival in Gisborne. Wainui Beach School have been practicing for it since the start of the year.

At the kapa Haka festival we sing many different Maori songs and do actions. Basically all the schools in gisborne do kapa haka .. I learnt that in the haka you have to slow down when you're singing. The boys do actions and the girls do the poi and some do actions.

Before school was so excited and nervous. When the bell rang I ran to the hall to get my moko on. I was shocked when I saw the humungus line. Luckily my friend was at the front of the line. He let me in front of him. Once stamped on my face the moko was so itchy. I wanted to scratch it but I didn't want to smudge my moko.

We arrived at the showgrounds after a long bus trip of singing and excitement. I slept some of the way.
